Towards the end of the 2023-24 school year, the Athletic Department and Student Council released Lawrenceville’s long-awaited mascot—Larrie the Bulldog! Ever since Larrie was revealed by Dean Welbourne at School Meeting, the mascot has undoubtedly gained a profound presence on campus. Seen ushering in new students at move-in day, promoting school spirit at House Olympics, and cheering on our sports teams at games, Larrie has rung in the 2024-25 school year with enthusiasm, a symbol for the Student Council’s new slogan “United and Proud.”
To further bolster school spirit and integrate Larrie into our community, Director of Athletics Nicole Stock has begun a project with Simona Audzeviciute ’26 to produce a series of Instagram Reels starring Larrie. In each episode, Larrie visits a different extracurricular or sports team on campus to amplify their achievements and find out what they have been working towards. Audzeviciute, who has filmed and directed numerous film projects, is extremely excited to be working on this project., “It’s a style of documentative shooting that I’ve never tried before, so it’s great being able to experiment with different mediums of film,” explained Audzeviciute.
Although involved in a plethora of other artistic endeavors, such The Disciples, Periwig, as well as the visual arts, film stands out as a unique avenue of creativity for Audzeviciute. For her, film is a “very accessible, impactful form of art that speaks louder than words, a way to express emotion through moving pictures, for the viewer to interpret the images and dialogue to their own inclinations.” As a child, film brought Audzeviciute a sense of comfort and familiarity, and she wishes to encapsulate that same feeling into her films, passing on the same comforting feeling to her viewers. Especially as an international student, Audzeviciute offers a unique, creative perspective on the arts. Having competed in international competitions for both film and visual art, she has been able to blend Lithuanian and American cultural backgrounds.
As new episodes starring Larrie come out in the following weeks, Audzeviciute hopes to “shine a light upon the diverse range of talented individuals we have in our community,” and to continue to “promote school spirit” through the short episodes.
