With the warm breeze of spring waving goodbye to the cold winter, the time has come to welcome the new season. Spring is finally here, ready to melt our frozen hearts, and there could be no better way to celebrate the arrival of warm weather than with a meticulously curated spring playlist. The Lawrence has compiled a playlist of ten songs to help Lawrentians feel the sunshine, charming breeze, and spring energy!

“Dandelions” Album Cover
Named for the dandelion flower, Ruth B’s hit single from her 2017 album Safe Heaven represents new beginnings and growth. The song consists of pretty lyrics that soothe the listener, and such a serene melody evokes the illusion of falling into a dream. With her unforgettable vocals, Ruth B perfectly captures the sense of excitement one feels when welcoming the spring weather. It is a pure and cute song that conveys the feeling of freedom and wishes of unrequited love.

“Love Again” by The Kid Laroi
As one of the most trending artists in the music industry, Australian rapper and singer The Kid Laroi has become well known for songs like “STAY” and “WITHOUT YOU.” His latest release, “Love Again,” captures youth's vibrant love and spring's innocence. This song expresses a desire to return to the moment of passionate love, despite the wounds of that relationship. The song suits the spring season as it encapsulates the hope for the future we all feel when spring rolls around. “Love Again” received favorable reviews and praise from the audience for its relatable lyrics and memorable melodies.

“Don't Worry Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin
“Don’t Worry Be Happy” features a cheerful melody with lyrics encouraging listeners to let go of their worries and enjoy the present moment and, as alluded in the title, be happy. The rhythmical chorus and Bobby McFerrin’s humming liven up the song, but it is his monologue throughout that feels as if he’s talking to the listeners directly. With a positive message and bright feelings, this song is perfect for listening to in spring, the season of new beginnings. It will surely put a smile on your face!

"Save Your Tears" by The Weeknd ft. Ariana Grande
Despite the bright and lively nature of spring, heartbreaking moments accompany any season. With "Save Your Tears," The Weeknd continuously questions his past relationships. In his fourth single album, After Hours, The Weeknd reminisces the precious times that two lovers spent together. The song reflects on the regret of running away from a relationship, longing for the reunion, while  the ex-partner “look[s] so happy when I'm not with you.” The song itself makes perfect synergy between two talented artists. The Weeknd’s uniquely calm but impactful voice harmonizes wonderfully with never-doubt-her Ariana Grande’s high whistle notes. With dreamy vocals and a calm beat that is reminiscent of ’80s tunes, the song is great to listen to while strolling on a cool spring evening.

“Beautiful Day” by Trinix, Rushawn and Jermaine Edwards
So often, we complain about our misfortunes instead of finding joy in everyday life. The lyrics of “Beautiful Day” make us reconsider the grace of our daily lives and the beauty of simple things. “Beautiful Day” is an electronic dance track by Trinix, Rushawn, and Jermaine Edwards, which blends electronic and acoustic elements to create a dynamic sound. The lyrics encourage listeners to let go of their negativity and appreciate the beauty of life by enjoying the present moment. The heartwarming intro, seemingly sung by a child, adds an element of purity to the song, creating the perfect soundtrack for a sunny spring day.

“Sunroof” by Nicky Youre, Dazy
Just as spring is a perfect time of the year to relax on a drive with your head hanging out of the sunroof, Nicky Youre and Dazy’s “Sunroof” is a must-listen song, perfect for a car ride on a sunny day. As seen on the album cover, “Sunroof” goes well with the spring, creating a fresh and bright feeling as if the sun is beaming on the listener’s face. From the song's beginning, the cheerful and refreshing melody pleasantly catches the ear, making it impossible to resist humming along with the beat.

“Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles
The Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun," a song about the feelings of hope and renewal that come with the arrival of spring, is a timeless classic that perfectly captures the essence of springtime.. The lyrics describe the end of a long and dark winter, as well as the arrival of sunshine and warmth. The bright and cheerful melody, and the harmonies of the Beatles impart listeners with a sense of joy and hope to move forward.

“Good Days” by SZA
“Good Days” makes listeners feel content. It starts with the swaying intro melody, sounding reminiscent of a dream that goes hand-in-hand with her voice to create a  lulling atmosphere. The song strengthens the heart with positive lyrics, suggesting good days depend on one’s outlook and positivity. On the album cover, “Good Days” is written on the forehead of a child, reflecting a young child who yearns to overcome difficult situations and move forward, fitting perfectly with the song that sings about leisure and direction.

“Happy” by Pharrell Williams
There is probably no better song to enjoy in the warm spring weather than Pharrell Williams' hit song “Happy.” This song's bright and catchy melody and upbeat and energetic chorus will make anyone spring to their feet. The lyrics convey happiness and positivity and harmonize well with Pharrell Williams' singing. When you clap and dance along to the lyrics, it is easy to feel “like a room without a roof.”

Hopefully, a fresh array of songs will help all Lawrentians to get into the spirit of the season of new beginnings.
