Previewing Boy's Soccer's Game of the Week

The Lawrenceville Boys’ Varsity Soccer team is off to a great start this season. They have compiled some impressive wins, including a 9-1 win over Central Jersey College Prep Academy in the season opener. This was an amazing way to start the season, and that momentum carried them through other tough matchups against Hotchkiss and Episcopal Academy, leading to 4-0 and 1-0 wins respectively.
Captain Brady Le ’25 has had an impressive season, with his constant presence in midfield being an important contributor towards the team’s success this year. He brings leadership, skill, and consistently strong performances to help the team. Other key players such as winger David Holland ’26, fullback Toler Wreaks ’27, center back Arthur Hampel ’26, midfielder Stamatis Golfinopoulos ’25, winger Dele Joa-Griffith ’26, striker Caio Paiva ’25, and center back Holden Pettinelli ’26 have also had positive impacts on the team’s success. They have been scoring goals, playing good defense, exemplifying leadership, and, most importantly, building great team work.

With the help of upperclassmen leaders, the team has developed camaraderie and fostered a vibrant culture this year. Wreaks is impressed with “the amazing team chemistry on and off the field”, while Gavin Hamilton ’25, who has been on varsity for the past two years, mentioned that his seasons on the team have been a fun experience, and that he enjoys “getting better with the boys”. A perfect example of their tight-knit brotherhood was the fairytale ending game against Episcopal Academy, where Holland scored a late game-winning goal in a 1-0 Big Red victory. Hamilton described it as “the best part of the season” so far, as the whole team celebrated and hyped up both Holland's accomplishment and the win.
Hamilton added that the team looks to work on playing to their maximum potential on a more consistent basis. Wreaks explained how the team had a disappointing loss against Germantown Academy, saying that “the team is doing a multitude of things well” including “passing the ball really well”, however, the boys need to work on “improving [their] shooting in front of goal” as well as working on “the mental side of the game” in light of the loss to Germantown. They will continue to work on reaching these goals before their matchup against Westfield on October 7, which will be the game of the week, so be sure to pop out and support the team!
